Track 1: Saih Puja Semara

Saih means mode or scale. Puja means to pray. Semara is God of Love. So, Saih Puja Semara means that the mode used in this piece is a pray to the God of Love.

Track 2: Gending Rejang Renteng

Rejang is one kind of a classical dance which is usually performed during the rites ceremony. Renteng means a nice voice. So, this piece (Gending) is used to accompany the dance called Rejang Renteng or a ‘Sweet Rejang’.

Track 3: Gending Ngerejeg Kasumba

Ngerejeg means ‘to attack someone with many people’. Here, it means that this piece has an intricate interlocking part between one and other instruments. Kasumba is the name of one kind of red colour which is very beautiful. So, Gendig Ngerejeg Kasumba is a beautiful piece with intricate interlocking parts.

Track 4: Gending Nyangjangan (Gegucekan)

Nyangjangan or Nyanjaang is derived from the word ‘Senja’ which means ‘evening’ (or the end of a day). Here it means that this piece is always played at the end of the ceremony.

Track 5: Gending Kasumba, Pukulan Sekati

Sekati is the name of a kind of striking instrument in a Balinese ensemble. The other names are ‘Kekenyongan’, ‘Malpal’, ‘Niltil’, etc. This piece is played using Sekati technique which sounds more classical comparing to Ngerejeg or Gegucekan technique.

Track 6: Gending Kare/Perang Pandan

Kare means to be hurted. This piece is used to accompany the fighting dance is which the dancers fight one another by using prickly Pandanus leaves.

Track 7: Gending Nyangjangan, Pukulan Reong

Reong is the name of an instrument in gamelan gong or gong ensemble which is played by four musicians. This piece of Gending is played using Reyong technique.
