Track 1: Barong Dance
The Barong and Rangda dance rivals the Kecak Dance as Bali’s most touristic popular dance. It tells a battle between goodness, represented by the Barong, and badness, represented by Rangda.
Track 2: Kecak Dance
Probably the most famous Balinese dance, Kecak is also unsual because it does not have Gamelan background music. The background music is provided by a chanting choir of men who provide the ‘Cak! Cak! Cak!’ noise. Originally, this chanting group was known as part of Sanghyang Trance Dance. Then in the 1930s, the modern Kecak was developed in Bona village, Gianyar, Bali.
Track 3: Ramayana Ballet
The Ramayana is, of course, a familiar tale in Bali but the dance has been a relatively recent addition to the Balinese repertoire. It basically tells the same story of Rama and Sita as told in the Kecak but without the monkey ensemble and with a Gamelan gong. Furthermore, the Ramayana provides wide opportunities for improvisations and additions.
Track 4: Gamelan (Tabuh Kreasi Baru)
Balinese music is based around the instrument known as Gamelan which is basically a central part of Balinese music itself. Gamelan instruments are mostly percussions, apart from the simple Suling (Balinese flute) and the two stringed Rebab, there are no wind or string instruments in Balinese music. The main instrument of Gamelan is the metallophone, a Xylophone-like Gangsa which has bronze bars above bamboo resonators.
