Track 1: Act 1

Sita has sent her husband to try and capture the golden deer, unaware that it is really Rawana’s prime minister in disguise. Soon, a cry of help is heard and thinking it to be Rama’s voice, Sita asks Laksmana to go and see what is the matter. Reasoning that as a divine prince, Rama can come to no real harm, Laksmana refuses the request at first. However, when Sita accuses him of wanting his brother dead so that he can marry her, Laksmana becomes very angry and compiles with the wish, leaves her alone unprotected.

Track 2: Act 2

Rawana kidnaps the terrified Sita and takes her to his Kingdom.

Track 3: Act 3

In Rawana’s palace, Sita is accompanied by Trijata, Rawana’s niece. She is lonely and very unhappy. Suddenly the monkey general, Hanoman, appears. He has secretly entered the palace and brought a ring from Rama for Sita, to prove that he is a friend of Rama.

Track 4: Act 4

On the battlefield, Rama is shot by Meganada, the son of Rawana. Meganada’s arrow turns into a snake which encircles Rama and ties him up like a rope. In the dance, this scene is represented by the inner circle of the chorus, separating from the rest and surrounding Rama. In desperation, Rama calls his ally, the Garuda Bird, that immediately appears and frees him by pecking the snake to death.

Track 5: Act 5

Sugriwa, the King of the Monkeys, offers to lead his monkey army to attack Meganada. He challenges Meganada to come out from the cloud and fight. Here the chorus divides itself into two parts. One half forms the monkey army and the rest becomes the demon army, shouting ‘Cak! Cak! Cak!’ The monkeys win the battle. Rama kills the demon Rawana and finally he returns happily to his kingdom with his wife, Sita.
